Pieces from the past Block 12

 https://melvalovesscraps.blogspot.com/2020/09/pieces-from-past-pine-burr-quilt-block.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MelvaLovesScraps+%28Melva+Loves+Scraps%29

September was busy with kids back to school
-- this year is online learning, even harder.

Didn't have time make the difficult Block 12,
so I just made the easy version.
Will find a time next month and make the Pine Burr,
I like foundation paper piecing

This easy block's name is: The X Quartette Block

Pieces From The Past: Block 10 Russian Sunflower

Again this is another lovely pattern Melva brought to us~

Love Sunflowers! Perfect for August in Minnesota.

It uses EPP (English Paper Piecing) method,
I cut out some paper and roughly cut out all the fabric pieces,
but changed my plan and used Y-seam machine piecing.

Then I found the flower ring was too big :(
Should have resized the fabric pieces before sewing.

I had to remove one pedal,
and only have 15 instead of 16.

Then I hand appliqued the central round piece. Reverse appliqued the outer round background fabric.

A beautiful yellow flower is blooming in my back yard~

I have made some blocks that are similar:

I call it "3D sparky Dresden plate"

And here is another one I made in May, 2020, same method used:

update on 8/22/2020   I also made the easy version block10A: Often

Piecing from the Past: Block 7

Piecing from the Past: Block 7

another nice and beautiful block,
since it is 15.5" ,will behard for me to re-size it to 4.5",
I decided use different fabrics to make a big one.
And the pink fabric was from Melva~

BUT.....
I connected the triangles to the wrong places!
so, it looks different than the original

I will make another one later!

OK, Here is a good one ~

Aurifil Designers of the Month March 2020

Dolomites

This block was designed to used fusible applique method.

Don't have any fusible fabric and couldn't go out to buy since the COVID -19,
so I just pieced the fabrics by orders, like Foundation Paper Piecing.

Really like how it turned out ~
A beautiful block!

cut all the fabrics out with 1/4" seam

divide the block to big pieces
