Santa Fe Trail QAL: Block 6

Block 6 of the Santa Fe Trail is “Shoo Fly”

Another transitional block.

I searched online to see why it is named  “shoo fly”,

It’s a purple flower’s name,

also a sweet Amish molasses dessert’s name.

Melva showed us a Molasses cookie recipe in her blog.

Santa Fe Trail QAL: Block 5

  Block 5 : Indian Corns

of The Santa Fe Trail QAL with Melva

I love reading the story Melva shared in her blog.

I had traveled to brand new places many times,

lots of new cultures and languages to learn,

new foods to try, and different types of people too.

 Great memories.

The block is also enclosed in “The Farmer’s Wife 1920”,

I made one before in 4.5”, not easy…

Actually, last year I made a wall hanging,

the central part also used this traditional block.

Name is  “Purple Daisy”

Santa Fe Trail: QAL 2021. Block 4: Snow

Finished Santa Fe Trail QAL Block 4: Snow

here is the original block Snow looks like

I tried using a different way to make the half-log cabin pattern

miscalculated and the four pieces measured a little bit small (1/8" short...)

so I decided to use a 1/4" dark fabric to connect the four pieces

Plan to make another original block ❤️

"Lucky" : Copy of an old baby quilt from Japan

When I was in Japan 20 years ago,
I received a baby quilt from a friend's grandma.
It was used for my son,
and  later was used for my daughter.
It had been used a lot and washed many times.

I love it and always want to make a similar one by myself.
Now kids are big enough and I finally have time to finishing the dream.
I drew a EQ8 picture of it, and named it "Lucky"

"Lucky" : Copy of an old baby quilt from Japan

My plan is make 2 blocks a week, and finish it before June.
I tried different methods to make the blocks,
very interesting blocks~

Block 1:  Basket

Block 2:  Grandma' Fan

Block 3: Corner Hearts

Block 4: Lily

Pieces From The Past Top finished~

Put the 20 blocks together , how do you think?

I like it~

Thank you Melva for having this great quilt along ❤️❤️

We had beautiful spring snow on Tuesday in MN,

and I took the picture on the new snow.

And I have three extra blocks, will use them on other projects.
There is also one block called "Pine Burr" ,
I plan to do the FPP soon.

The fabrics that I used in the blue quilt top were all up-cycled:

one cotton white shirt that my son worn twice for his piano recitals:

one cotton one-piece skirt that my daughter loved but didn't get to wear too often;

one pair of my "big size" maternity pajama ...

Love the name "Pieces From The Past" ,

not only the blocks were from 1930s',

also the fabrics were from "the past",

full of memories.

Just love it ❤️

Pieces From The Past Block 18: Double "T"

Block 18 : Double "T"

Interesting block, I think I saw four capital letter 'T"?   😄

The fabric I used was not showing the T clearly,
so I made another one in solid color
much better~
